In this post I'll be wrapping up the first turn of the scenario.
Picking up from where I left off, I only had 3 unexhausted units on the map, a medic, the sniper team, and Super 61's crew. I considered moving the sniper team 1 hex (as per SSR they are allowed to move 1 hex from the crash site), but the rubble was too expensive in MP's for me to be able to assault move them, and I didn't want remove their ability to fire that turn. So I passed. The order card for the AEO ordered an activation of a mob. Rolling on the mob activation chart they gave a result of "mob grows." Another mob was spawned next to the previous one but other than that they remained in place. Both were marked Ops Complete.
Again not having much in the way of options I passed. The AEO moved two its units in square K9 (I randomly determined the force structure through die roll) one space closer to the crash site into a light construction building. I opportunity fired with my sniper against the 1 FP unit (rubble is only degrading terrain not blocking and Delta snipers can pick their target). Despite getting to roll 2d6's + FP I only came out with a difference of 2 against their defensive die roll (1d6 + 1, it came out to 7 whereas I had a 9). Rolling on the DFT and adding the difference netted a result of "No Effect." Darn it. My sniper was marked fired and their units marked moved.
The next several moves by the AEO saw it moving a few mobs and single units around either towards by forces or towards the crash site. Eventually the rest of the stack in K9 (A Somali leader and a half squad) moved to join their fellow units.
Because there wasn't much action I'm just going to skip ahead and show the end result on the map once the turn was officially over.
I'm going to take the time and reflect on that first turn here in a few points:
- It was probably a mistake to move South away from the crash site to swing around.
- The Somali forces moved to counter that maneuver and now my forces down there are checked by mobs and a couple Somali units.
- It'll take time to drive back the militia units and move through the mobs hopefully without having to open fire on them. Either that or I'll have to take an even longer way around which I'm now considering.
- The single half squad I left North with the medic to help cover the maneuver is in a precarious situation which essentially leaves it on the defensive.
- Finally, the sniper and crew at the crash site doesn't have the firepower to truly challenge that large stack near it.
Despite this, I'm going to continue playing the scenario out until it ends. Thanks for reading. Feel free to leave feedback in the comments, especially if I made an obvious mistake haha.
